 Earthenware manufacturers at The Foley Potteries, Foley, Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent

  • George Elkin retired from the previous business and John King Knight continued on his own account.

 

Formerly: Knight & Elkin

Subsequently: Knight & Wileman

 

  • 1788/9 John King Knight was born at Thringstone, Leicestershire. In 1813 he married Elizabeth Elkin at Bucknall (Stoke-on-Trent). 

  • 1841 J K Knight was chief baliff for Great Fenton.

  • He was a trustee of the Longton Freehold Land Society

  • In 1851 he was recorded as living in Golden Hill (situated between Foley & Longton) and was listed in that year as a potter, coal master and farmer of 220 acres.

  • 1854 he was recorded as owning Ubberley Colliery

  • J K Knight died 15th May 1856 at Golden Hill
