The Staffordshire knot is was used with the name "PHILLIPS" and sometimes "LONGPORT"

This pottery was not in Staffordshire however used the Staffordshire Knot mark - presumably to enhance the status of his ware - also John Wardle (who established the works with William Wilkinson) originally worked for Alcock's of Burslem.

on the mark shown "Sylvan" is the pattern. the registered number dates from 1886, however the addition of "ENGLAND" denotes 1891+

Mark on crested ware with flags the Russian Empire, France and the United Kingdom (the Triple Entente) together with that of Belgium which was invaded by Germany in August 1914
