The Short Willow Pattern Poems
previous: willow poem (2)

There are many variations of this little poem - here are seven examples:

Two little birdies flying high
a little vessel passing by
a weeping willow hanging o'er
a bridge with three men, if not four.
a Chinese castle there it stands
as if the Lord of many lands,
a tree with many apples on,
and a fence at the bottom to end my song.

Two pigeons flying high
Chinese vessel sailing by
Weeping willow hanging o 'er
Bridge with three men, if not four
Chinese temples there they stand
Seem to take up all the land
Apple trees with apples on
A pretty fence to end my song.

Two big birds flying high
a little ship, passing by
three men standing on the shore,
a willow tree hanging o'er
an idle temple, there it stands
it wasn't built without hands,
an orange tree with oranges on,
and iron railings right along.

Two pigeons flying high
sailing vessel passing by,
a bridge with three and not with four.
a weeping willow hanging o'er,
Chinese castle here it stands,
apple tree with apples on,
and a zig zag fence below
which ends my song.

Two birds flying high,
Little boat passing by.
Wooden bridge with willow o'er
Three men passing, if not four,
A little house with open door
Apple tree with apples on,
Iron railings all around
To keep the boys away.

Two doves flying high,
Chinese vessel sailing by,
Weeping willow hanging o'er
Bridge with three men, and not with four,
Chinese teahouse there it stands
Seems to take up all the land,
Orange tree with fruit thereon,
A pretty fence to end my song.

Two birds flying high,
A Chinese vessel, sailing by.
A bridge with three men, sometimes four,
A willow tree, hanging o'er.
A Chinese temple, there it stands,
Built upon the river sands.
An apple tree, with apples on,
A crooked fence to end my song.
