Margaret Roylance and established their home in Newcastle-under-Lyme. Margaret Roylance was the daughter of Thomas Roylance of Townhouse in Audley. |

inherited Newfield Hall, Tunstall from his uncle, Thomas Baddeley. Smith Child rebuilt the hall - and prior to 1800 he had added a pottery works to it. |
1781 | Commanded the ship Europe in actions off Chespeake capes in the American War of Independence. |
1782 | Smith Child's eldest son Thomas Child dies in the unfortunate Ville de Paris. |
1795 | Captain Child took command of the ship Commerce de Marseilles. |
1799 | Attained the rank of 'flag officer' on Valentine's day - 14th February. |
1811 | Smith Child's son John George Child dies. |
1813 | Smith
Child died on 21st January. He left his estate to his grandson Sir Smith Child who was then only 5 years of age. Admiral Smith Child was buried in St. Margaret's churchyard, Wolstanton. |
