Scout Gang Shows 

In 1934 the first Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle scouts gang show "Screamline" was staged at the Queen's Hall, Burslem.

Paderewski b.1860 d.1941 

Ignacy Jan Paderewski was one of Poland's world renowned pianists and composers - in 1895 he devoted the entire proceeds of his concert in Hanley to the Diglake Colliery disaster fund.
Diglake Colliery at Bignal End, Audley, flooded on 14th January 1895, with the loss of 77 lives.

Samuel Coleridge Taylor 

British composer, Samuel Coleridge Taylor conducted the first performance of his choral work 'Hiawatha' at the Victoria Hall, Hanley.

Pantomime

Betty Driver (Coronation Street Star "Betty Williams" - was "Turpin") appeared in pantomime at the Theatre Royal, Hanley, in 1939. 

Postcards

Postcards of smoky, sooty Stoke-on-Trent and the coal fired bottle kilns were produced around 1900 by William Blake - a Longton photographer.

Ernest Warrillow

Ernest Warrillow (the North Staffordshire photographer and historian) wrote a children's book: "A Candle of Dreams". There is a copy in the nursery at Buckingham Palace.

George Bernard Shaw

Shaw made a surprise visit to Hanley Park in 1930 when the Wedgwood bicentenary pageant was being held.
