Paderewski
b.1860 d.1941
Ignacy Jan Paderewski was one of
Poland's world renowned pianists and composers - in 1895 he devoted
the entire proceeds of his concert in Hanley to the Diglake Colliery
disaster fund.

Samuel Coleridge Taylor
British composer, Samuel Coleridge Taylor conducted the first
performance of his choral work 'Hiawatha' at the Victoria Hall,
Hanley. |
Pantomime
Betty Driver (Coronation Street Star "Betty Williams" - was
"Turpin") appeared in pantomime at the Theatre Royal, Hanley, in
1939.

Ernest Warrillow
Ernest Warrillow (the North Staffordshire photographer and
historian) wrote a children's book: "A Candle of Dreams". There is a
copy in the nursery at Buckingham Palace. |
George Bernard Shaw
Shaw made a surprise visit to Hanley Park in 1930 when the Wedgwood
bicentenary pageant was being held. |
